TATTOO removal is fast becoming a popular
treatment with more people getting tattoo
remorse or having simply grown out of their
old ink. This
trend is also enhanced by
newer laser machines that do the job more
effectively and safely, compared to past
methods which leave scars that are worse
than the tattoo itself.
New laser tattoo removal techniques
can eliminate your tattoo with minimal
side effects. Here’s how it works: A laser is a
device which is designed to produce one or more
specific wavelengths of light. Tattoo ink is removed
by using this specific wavelength of light which passes
into the skin, and is absorbed by the ink. The rapid
absorption of light energy causes the tattoo ink to
break into tiny particles which can then be removed by
the body’s natural filtering systems. Colours that
can be removed are dark blue, black and red inks.
Green, sky blue, orange and purple usually fade
as well. Yellow ink is the most difficult to treat.
The MedLite Laser provides maximum tattoo
removal while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.
Anaesthesia is not required for the majority of
patients, and the discomfort of the procedure can be
reduced using local anaesthetic creams such as Emla
which is available at the clinic.
Dr Kevin Chua answered all my questions and
even showed me before and after photos of
his patients to reassure me of the results at
our consultation. Unfortunately, due to the lack of
time, I was not able to use the Emla cream as it would
take about two hours for it to take effect on my leg.
After signing a consent form, I was brought to the
treatment room and my tattoo thoroughly cleaned.
As it was my first time, Dr Chua set the MedLite
Laser at a low setting and started the procedure.
The tattoo removal treatment felt like someone was
snapping rubber bands on my leg. Thankfully, this
discomfort was alleviated with a special Cryo cold
air device that blew cold air on the treated area
simultaneously.
My tattoo had a white layer over it immediately after treatment. It was also slightly red and felt tender. An antibacterial ointment and dressing was applied after the procedure. Dr Chua said that my pigments have been pushed deep into my skin to be reabsorbed by my body, however some pigment will resurface over the next few days and I will have to return for follow-up treatments to get rid of my tattoo completely.
About eight to 12 sessions at four to eight week intervals are recommended. Greater than 95% fading of tattoos have been accomplished with this machine with minimum scarring. Older tattoos and amateur tattoos are also easier to remove.
Anyone with past ink regret - the MedLite Laser System can remove all professional, amateur, traumatic and surgical tattoos.
